"The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust." Psalm 18 v 2
| Hannah Dale, from Lincoln, was an international chess player who has tried to maintain a biblical stance on the Lord’s Day. Competing in the British Under 14 Chess Championships, she was faced with a dilemma. The first round of this six-day tournament was due to take place on the Lord’s Day. Praying, like Nehemiah, that ‘the Lord would give her favour in the eyes of this man’, Hannah asked the organiser if any special arrangements could be made, rather than simply default. They could hardly have been more helpful. Arrangements were made for Hannah to play her first round match on the Saturday instead. She drew the game against the Number 2 seed, and went on to come fourth, winning the Girls’ Trophy. Prayer does work!
