"The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust." Psalm 18 v 2

Why Sunday? Why should we treat one day differently? To find the answer, we have to go to the Creator's handbook - the Bible The Sabbath is not a Jewish invention - it was instituted at creation and a day of rest is God's gift to mankind. It doesn't mean Saturday either for the same reason. Sabbath in Hebrew simply means "rest". The Sabbath was important to Jesus Christ, God's Son - the only habit we're told in the Bible was to go to the synagogue on the Sabbath; he announced that he was the Lord of the Sabbath. The Lord of the Sabbath transferred it to the first day of the week - this was the day when he rose from the dead, appeared to his disciples and poured out his Spirit. The Apostles kept the first day of the week - it came to be known as the Lord's day. Throughout Church history, it is Sunday that has been observed as the Christian Sabbath - evidence of this goes back as far as AD74. It is actually immoral not to keep the Sabbath Day - it is part of God's moral law which also forbids idolatry, theft and murder. The Christian Sabbath is a day of joy and gladness and God gave it to be a blessing to us all. The blessings of the Sabbath day are there for all to see - it reminds unbelievers that there is God whom they should worship; it gives believers an opportunity to worship, it strengthens family ties, gives the nation a chance to rest, it promotes health and much more besides. A Sabbath well spent Brings a week of content And health for the toils of the morrow; But a Sabbath profaned Whate'er may be gained Is a certain forerunner of sorrow.
