Why Sunday?

"The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; My God, my strength, in whom I will trust."

Psalm 18 v 2

SILENCE IS NOT GOLDEN; IT'S YELLOW

During the summer recess, the Society wrote to the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, and to the leader of the opposition, David Cameron.

Mr Brown's reply was very brief and to the point, but Mr Cameron's reply was more detailed. He believes that the

family is the central unit in society and has pledged to strengthen the family in all future policies.

I was informed, in his reply, that he is a member of the Church of England, and that he and his family are fairly

regular churchgoers, both in London and his Oxfordshire constituency. However, he added that although his faith

is important, it's a very private thing.

I find this a very common response from leaders in public life. How can we keep our faith to ourselves? If the

apostles responded in the same way, Europe, and particularly Britain, would have remained in spiritual darkness. If William Carey had kept his faith to himself, many in India would have been unaware of the love of Christ Jesus. If Hudson Taylor had kept his faith private, the people of Central China would remain unreached with the gospel.

Wesley, Whitfield and many others travelled the length of the nation proclaiming this life-changing message. C H

Spurgeon made a great impact in the city of London and many lives were transformed through his ministry. Great numbers of faithful pastors and Christians within their employment are sowing the seed of God's word.

If our gospel is hidden, it is hidden from those who are lost. Even within Parliament, men such as William Wilberforce, former Speaker George Thomas and many others were not ashamed to share their faith. Come on,

Mr Cameron and others, if you have a faith, make it known. Silence is not always golden; sometimes it is just

plain yellow!
