We hope you will find information to help and encourage you in the vitally important issue of keeping the Lord's Day - a principle laid down by God himself in creation. Sadly, in these days, too few Christians realise the importance of this issue in the health of the church and our nation at large.
Today, the organisation - previously known as the Lord's Day Observance Society - under the name of Day One Christian Ministries campaigns for Sunday to be a day of worship and rest; our day of rest is increasingly under threat as retail businesses, sports events and entertainment seek to make Sunday just another day to make money.
Day One also has a very significant work in DayOne Publications as well as supporting the Daylight Christian Prison Trust. That's why the whole organisation is now called Day One Christian Ministries.

London Theological Seminary Visit

The Changing Face of the Lord's Day in Northern Ireland
“Slack Sabbaths”, a film from Tern Television was the intriguing title of a BBC Television Programme broadcast on BBC Northern Ireland on Wednesday 12th December 2012. Produced and directed by John MacLaverty it was presented by Peter Curran who had come back to Northern Ireland after some decades of absence. The official BBC blurb about the programme states, “25 years after leaving Northern Ireland, BBC Radio 4’s writer and presenter, Peter Curran returns to take a wry and amusing personal journey as he sets out to see how Sundays have changed”. Christians undermined by Judge's Ruling
A judge has ruled that Christians have no right to refuse to work on Sundays.
This new ruling by a High Court judge is the first on the issue in nearly ten years. His reason for the ruling is that to decline Sunday working is not a ‘core component’ of the Christian’s belief. The decision means that Christians have no protection from being dismissed for refusing to work on Sundays.
This ruling clearly places Christians in a inferior position compared with other religions. How can a judge decide what the core beliefs of Christians are? Surely the Bible is our authority and it places a very high regard for Sunday observance. How can a judge usurp the sovereignty of the Most High God?
The judgement was issued by Mr Justice Langstaff following an appeal brought by Celestina Mba, who claimed the Council pressurised her to work on Sundays and threatened her with disciplinary action if she failed to do so. This was despite other members of staff being willing to take her place. Initially her managers agreed to accept her wishes to not work on Sundays, but within a few months of commencing her job, they began to pressurise her to work on Sundays.
Celestina is 57 years old and comes from Streatham, South London. She worships regularly at her Baptist Church and involved in many activities.
This is a serious ruling as many Christians who respect the Lord’s Day could be removed from their employment if their employers are unsympathetic to their beliefs. This is just one of a number of rulings in recent months that clearly discriminate against a Christian’s beliefs. We need to pray earnestly that the tide will eventually turn within a nation that only a few decades ago respected and upheld the Christian faith.

A few weeks before the last General Election, we wrote to David Cameron and Nick Clegg asking, if their party was elected to govern the country, did they have plans to deregulate Sunday trading laws during the life of the coming Parliament. Both men replied, independently, assuring us that the present laws relating to Sunday trading would remain intact. Read more
Avoiding legalism in our Sabbath-keeping
This day of rest and worship was, in the Old Testament, appointed on the last day of the week, but is now, by virtue of Christ’s resurrection, appointed on the first day of the week.
This position recognises that some things did change from Old to New Testaments, while other things remain the same. Jesus did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it, and to keep it, and to set us an example in keeping it too. The new birth results in a new heart, on which the commandments have been written, and in which there is a new impulse to obey God out of a willing love and in devoted service. Read more
