DayOne incorporating the Lord's Day Observance Society |
Jesus said "The Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath" Mark 2 v 27 | Welcome!
Today, the organisation - previously known as the Lord's Day Observance Society - under the name of Day One Christian Ministries campaigns for Sunday to be a day of worship and rest; our day of rest is increasingly under threat as retail businesses, sports events and entertainment seek to make Sunday just another day to make money.
Day One also has a very significant work in DayOne Publications as well as supporting the Daylight Christian Prison Trust. That's why the whole organisation is now called Day One Christian Ministries.

Sunday Trading and the Olympics
This week it was announced that the Government is to rush through legislation permitting all shops to open all hours, including Sunday’s, during the Olympic Games.
The greatest fear is that this temporary lifting of the current restrictions could pave the way to a permanent change in the law. This decision has been made without the usual consultation period, as it is expected to be ratified before Easter.
We are strongly opposed to this change for a number of reasons:
· It will have a major impact on shop assistants. · It will seriously undermine family life. Remember this Government was partly elected on their assurance to uphold the family bond. · It will increase the demand for other sections of society to work on a Sunday including, Local Authorities; transport companies; delivery companies and maybe banks. · It will automatically increase the traffic on our already congested roads. · It will significantly reduce the opportunities for Christians in retailing to worship on the Lord’s Day. · There is more to a nation’s prosperity than economics and pandering to big business. These measures are strongly opposed by the Unions; small businesses; the Government’s opposition; the churches as well as this Society.
We would also encourage you to pray for our leaders that they will, in this issue and other issues effecting Biblical principles, rule in the light that God is our supreme ruler and that His ways are for our benefit in all areas of life.
Finally, let us be always thankful that we can trust the Lord our God
Practical Preparations for Sunday Worship
When one reflects upon Hebrews 12:18-29, it is obvious that God considers corporate worship a serious matter, not the game that the modern church so often plays. Take a few minutes to open your Bible and read that portion of God’s Word. Read more

The Glasgow-born prop, 31, choose to prioritise his faith and missed Scotland’s Pool B clash with Argentina on Sunday. ‘I don’t see why there have to be games on Sundays,’ said Murray. ‘I hope things will change in future.’ Geoff Cross will replace Murray, who has been dubbed by Scotland coach Andy Robinson as ‘the best scrummager’. Murray will hope that he has done enough in previous matches to get his place in the team back for next week’s match against England, which takes place on a Saturday. Back in 2008, Murray did play on a Sunday when Scotland took on France in the Six Nations. But, after his faith deepened, he announced a year later that he would no longer be available for selection on Sundays. At the time he said: ‘It’s basically all or nothing, following Jesus. I don’t believe in pick ’n’ mix Christianity. I believe the Bible is the word of God, so who am I to ignore something from it? I might as well tear out that page then keep tearing out pages as and when it suits me. If I started out like that there would soon be nothing left. I want to live my life believing and doing the things [God] wants and the Sabbath day is a full day. It’s not a case of a couple of hours in church then playing rugby or going down the pub, it's the full day.’
How good it is to have examples from sports men and women like Euan for our children to look up to in a world where sport comes before our faith.
